A bitcoin/lightning Node acts as a backend server to wallets, you can’t use bitcoin/lightning without one. If not connecting to your own Node, you are telling someone else’s computer (Node) how much money you have and potentially where you keep it.
A Virtual Private Node is essentially a personal server (computer) running bitcoin/lightning software in an off-site location. 24/7 virtual access and uptime, a non-KYC IP address, and reliable connectivity give users a unique mix of freedom and security.

No. If you already own a domain, you can leave the checkout field blank. Provide your actual domain when prompted by the ripsline Virtual Private Node installer. Make sure you point whatever domain/subdomain at the correct IP address.
We purchase the off-site Virtual Private Server at cost for 1 year (~$350). The email provided to us at checkout is used so only you have access to your VPS client portal. After 1 year, you will have to pay the server distributer ~$350 for the second year and so on. This is the only way for us to never touch keys to your node, a very important aspect of bitcoin.
Terminal is just your computers remote control. Most people only ever deal with Graphical User Interface (GUI), this is the point and click (computer) or touch (phone) to tell your device what to do. Terminal just tells a computer what to do by typing commands, this happens in the background when you use a GUI.
You never have to worry about revealing your home IP address. Trade-offs are that ripsline Virtual Private Node is pruned, and you have to trust the VPS provider to not breach terms and access the hardware you rent. Our focus is to provide users with a lightning node, Sparrow Wallet is a nice addition for people who seek an on-chain wallet node backend. With expensive home nodes, you will either leak your IP address OR conceil your IP by using TOR and deal with connectivity issues on lightning.
Zeus and Sparrow are the only wallets aligned with our vision. We only provide docs on how to connect them, feel free to connect other wallets.
